Interesting Blog: School Lunches

Postby Sierra » Fri Nov 03, 2006 9:50 am

First of all, I am in no way associated with her or her book. Just thought I would pass this on to any of the McDougallers here with small children.

It is amazing the effort and creativity she puts into school lunches for her son!!! Go here:

She takes pics of the food in the lunchbox and her son rates them. Be sure to check out the Halloween menu.

Her book of the same title, Vegan Lunch Box, will be released in another week, too. I don't see it on Amazon but on the page for it she has a link where you can order it and pay through PayPal.

I did too, although I bought the lunch box before I found Jennifer's site. I loved that little lunchbox so much that I actually bought two! I've been using them ever since. :-D

When I finally discovered Jennifer's blog last year I started making the lunches for my grandson, he loved them. I take mostly raw veggies & fruit, salad, and sometimes a baked potato in mine and sometimes a McDougall soup cup in the small lunch jar (it fits perfectly).

I still check out her blog every few weeks to see whats new and check out any new recipes. :-)
Have a great day!!

Vegan Lunch Box

Postby stokervegan » Fri Nov 03, 2006 7:04 pm

I also love her web-site. I have the lunch box and use it every day. :) My students love the lunch box and comment that they want one. My co -workers always say, "boy I wish I had your lunch!", they are eating the gross over processed school lunch.

What a talent she has for making food look fun. I have seen her creativity in the past. Thanx for posting her website. :-D

I was thinking of getting one of those lunchbox kits for a long time now. Do you like yours?

I love, love, love mine!! :-D I use them almost everyday and never tire of them. Several coworkers have also decided to purchase them since watching me enjoy mine.

Like I mentioned above, I actually bought two (plus extra inside containers so I could have more containers with closed tops), as well as two of the small lunch jars.
Have a great day!!

Sandie,
I've always wondered if the containers were large enough for the serving sizes when eating very low fat. Is it really big enough for a McDougaller?

I guess it depends on how much one eats for lunch. I personally graze throughout the day rather than eat 3 large meals. I usually take about a cup of salad and/or other raw veggies, a cup of starch and a cup of fruit. Sometimes I take a soup cup in the small lunch jar along with the other foods. I usually eat breakfast before I go to work (sometimes I have oatmeal at work) and then I eat the foods I take with me over the course of 4 - 5 hours during my work day. It usually fills me up but if I get hungry, I have a small stash of healthy foods in a drawer at work or I can buy something healthy in the dining hall. These are some of the lunches I've packed for work:

I believe the lunch box holds approximately 3 cups of food - two 1-cup containers (one with a seal) and two 1/2 cup containers. Many people leave out some of the containers to add space for say a large sandwich or they sometimes leave out all the containers and fill the whole thing with a huge salad. You can check out some neat pictures here (be sure to scroll down and look at all of them).
