New Lipid Numbers after Advanced Study Weekend!

Postby teynmar » Tue Feb 14, 2017 3:51 pm

Hi all!
I started Starch Solution with an honest effort and attended the Advanced study weekend this past weekend. I see now that I really HADN'T gotten rid of everything I needed to, but wanted to share that I had my blood checked at the beginning of the year after I'd already started the program for a week or so and got them checked Saturday at the ASW. I want to tell you I AM THRILLED! Can't wait until I have the weight loss to go with it. Now that I'll be doing the program more to the way it was designed, I'm sure that will help.

THANKYOU, Dr. McDougall for this and for everything I got out of the ASW!

Congrats on the improved numbers teynmar!

I’m not sure how familiar you are with all of Dr. McDougall’s teachings, but since you mention weight loss, you may want to consider the Maximum Weight Loss Program he developed. There’s a thread dedicated to it on this forum, and you can find the guidelines here:

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=26620

Recipes that are compliant to the program are here:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10076

There’s also weigh in group that tracks their progress, if you’re comfortable reporting that and want accountability. The current thread can be found here:

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=54443

Whatever you decide, good luck!

That's awesome.

Can I ask, what it was in addition that you needed to get rid of in order to improve the numbers like this?

Thanks

Here's the thing....I got those numbers doing the program as i was "interpreting " it but I hadn't totally gotten rid of some foods that might contain oil, or a squirt of non stick spray here or there or microwave popcorn that contained things other than just popcorn. Vegenaise is something i love and i didn't want to acknowledge that it wasn't on the program. I wasn't too careful in restaurants and just stopped at "is it vegan? good. then I'll take it."
When i went to the ASW then I realized that after meeting people with vibrant health that i coveted and hearing speakers and after listening to Mary when she did the cooking lecture and the how to order in restaurants....well...then i couldn't really claim that i didn't know anymore. I keep hearing Dr Mcdougall's voice in my head when i considered straying....THE FAT YOU EAT IS THE FAT YOU WEAR!!!
SO...even though I had those significant changes, now that I am doing the program to a more strict degree, I am slowing tweaking it to add more veggies to my plate and other tips i've read about. Does that make sense?
Thank you for the pats and the advice everyone!

I completely understand. Thank you for sharing and passing on the motivation.

I did a similar thing myself. I thought I was being Low fat for a long time and I wasn't really feeling many benefits. For me, it was running everything through the cronometer that I realised I was being more erm.. medium fat :-) It also held me to account as I had been unintentionally kidding myself here and there.

When I tweaked things within a month my hormones changed dramatically which was a major result for me and for the first time ever I experienced a pain free monthly cycle and health stabilised and is improving. When I eat more fat, it brings the pain back and other rubbish symptoms, like a lack of energy.

Also I had to learn to eat enough. If my body was ever going to heal and repair itself, it needs PBWF calories. This stopped me craving the fat foods too.

I listened to Mary's wonderful lecture on you tube. It may have been the one you attended? Lots of great tips. This polishing process is also worth its weight in gold. Currently I am adding in more herbs and spices, I bought my first specialised rice cooker and steamer which is amazing and makes the rice professional and fluffy and this is the first time I have tasted steamed veg and potatoes and they are flavoursome. I have my crock pot and like Mary - I like it with just High Low and off controls :-) And I am going to do more bean stews and soups and maybe even start buying frozen veg as a way to increase my greens...

Medium fat.....I can relate to that!
I attended the ASW they just had a week ago. It was worth its weight in gold. I never get tired of Dr. Doug Lisle. I've heard his talks on podcasts and on youtube and his humor and ability to put things in perspective are tremendous. Giving us tools to go out into the world when we want to shout it from the rooftops and others are not as receptive as we'd hoped (and we don't exactly look the part...yet), well...i was able to use those right away. No one around says much about health but the minute you try and make a big change, it throws the village into a tail spin. I was trying to argue my point....but then I remembered his words and was able to break off the discussion from everyone who suddenly became an expert with an opinion which made me feel empowered.
I will also say that Andrew "Spud Fit" Taylor had the most moving presentation telling his story. Everyone in the room was crying...then laughing.... a very relatable person with an inspiring story to tell.
All of the speakers were fantastic and inspirational. Seeing Dr McDougall was like seeing a celebrity (to me). I went up to shake his hand....and then totally forgot what I wanted say and ask.... I felt like a total dork but he was very gracious.
I am just going to keep tweaking and tweaking until the weight starts coming off and look forward to becoming visual proof that the program works. and I look forward to living longer. I am working my way towards MWL but I have made huge changes so far. I am going to celebrate those and not make so many changes I can't stick with them. Having a few recipes that i know I can make without thinking has been good advice from Mary.
I feel very happy and proud of what I have done so far.
