I finished my first half marathon in August of this year. I did that after being a raw vegan for several years!! Unfortunately the raw vegan diet is extremely high in nuts, seeds, coconut and oils which led to weight gain. McDougall has worked so well for me, I lost 1 1/2 lbs my first week! I am doing the maximum weight loss program, although I have had a few minor excursions with maple syrup and some ezekiel toast :-)

You can definately be an athlete and be vegan, my husband is a triathlete and kicks his twin brothers butt everytime, I know the difference is the diet because their entire lives they were very well matched and competitive, now my husband out does him everytime!!

McDougall is a great diet, it works and you don't have to be hungry, that's my favorite part :-) Welcome, this is a great place for support.
