New-ish hello

Postby 5underfoot » Thu Nov 01, 2007 9:17 pm

:) Hi, I'm Lisa
Discovered McDougall years ago but have trouble sticking for several reasons, the biggest being the carnivores I cook for. And the fact that I like my own cooking.

But, for health and ethical reasons, I need to McD. And I need to check in somewhere on these boards every day. I need to read something every day that reinforces my identity as a vegetarian, feeds my need for community and puts this way of life in the FRONT of my mind, not the back.

Because I'm swimming upstream and I need all you other fishies, or I just drift with the flow.

Is there a blog or something that you can recommend? I see the podcasts and hope to hear them soon, but I'm looking for something shorter. I tend to have a few minutes here or there to read a short piece. In the meantime I'll just scan the board for new posts once a day.

Looking forward to knowing you all better, and to feeling better, and to getting better!

Welcome, Lisa. Probably most of us here had been off and on McDougall a few times for various reasons. As long as we all keep coming *back* to this healthy way of eating. :)

As for blogs, there are probably a million vegan blogs out there. The best one for low fat vegan cooking is Susan Voisin's Fat Free Vegan one at:
http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/
and a much smaller one, more a web site with recipes than a blog, Marla's Marvelous Meals:
Her Yahoo 360 Blog
http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-4wJUrx08erREtjl3CGIxmQ--?cq=1&p=61

and
her other one on VegSource
http://vegsource.com/marla/

The best message board (besides this one, that is) *I* think is the Post Punk Kitchen forums, from the authors of Vegan with a Vengeance Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero:
http://www.postpunkkitchen.com

but not all the recipes on this site/blog/forum are McDougall-legal so be sure to make substitutions, like water or broth to sauté and skip the icing on the cupcakes.

Have fun!

Thank you for the warm welcome, Veggie Sue!
I've bookmarked the spots you listed. I appreciate the time you took to prepare that.
