Banza - Rotini Made from Chickpeas

Postby Bkworm » Wed May 09, 2018 12:59 pm

Hi,

My son just purchased a box of Banza, Rotini Made from Chickpeas, at Costco yesterday thinking it would be a compliant pasta.

Here is a link to their official site: https://www.eatbanza.com/pages/our-pasta

Ingredients are Chckpeas, Tapioca, Pea Protein, Xanthan Gum.

Hope it is a compliant pasta but some how I don't think this is and wanted to run it past you.

Thanks in advance of for any input.

We don't recommend any foods with added protein. Tapioca, as used here, is an extracted starch. this would not be a good choice as there are many better choices that are just whole grain.

Unless there is a wheat or gluten allergy, I think regular Whole Wheat pasta is best.

If there is a wheat or gluten allergy, then the whole grain rice pasta's are excellent and reasonable priced.

In addition, you can buy 100% Soba (Buckwheat) pasta form King Soba, that is also fairly priced. It has a nutty tasted.

I have seen quite a few of these lentil/bean pastas and my experience is they don't hold up well, usually have other added ingredients (to try and make them hold up better ie., Xanthan gum) and often taste terrible and are very expensive.

Thanks for your response, Jeff.

I figured it would not be compliant. My son just saw it at Costco and thought he was getting me a treat. Now I can explain the issues and return it for a refund. I recently made a pizza crust with chickpea flour so he knew I used that. Since I deal with RA, can’t eat anything with gluten and also can’t eat rice or oats as both also set off RA flares. Do eat a lot of Creamy Buckwheat Cereal instead of oats. Use roasted buckwheat a lot, too. The only other grains I can eat are quinoa and corn. Have tried a few other gluten-free grains but just haven’t liked them.

Did not know that Soba is buckwheat. Headed over to check King Soba products and see what I can’t live without. Usually use quinoa and corn pasta and it is ok but not as good a flavor as regular whole wheat pasta. Since I still have weight to lose, don’t eat pasta more than twice a month.

Again, thanks so much for your input.

Corn says usually holds up fairly well but if you like buckwheat, the buckwheat pasta is great.

You can find the best prices on King Soba at Amazon and Vitacost. They only sell it as “soba” noodles. If you like Penne, Felicia brand sells 100% buckwheat penne.
