Hi, Kat. Based on my personal experience with trying to figure out what flares me (rosacea plus possible autoimmune condition and histamine intolerance), I would say yes, stress and lack of sleep can cause a flare. The sun can also cause a flare for me (not just a skin rash but all my symptoms including joint pain), and it tends to happen faster than with food.
It sounds like your daughter is already on her own "elimination diet" and has gone through much of the process of figuring out what works and what doesn't. In her situation, instead of starting from square 1 again with a full elimination diet, I might try journaling what I'm eating for a month or so to try to detect a pattern that's causing the flares. If that doesn't work, she can always try the elimination diet as well. I would probably take Dr. McDougall's basic ED and adjust based on what she already knows she can tolerate (like adding wheat). I hope she can figure out what's causing the flares and get permanent relief soon.
