Re: Compliance Project

Postby Idgie » Sun Feb 03, 2019 4:04 pm

Had a talk with my partner today. It's hard for me to stay compliant when I'm being offered off-plan food, even though it's really sweet to be offered it. We agreed I'm back on plan 100% starting tomorrow, and we even went into our pantries and disposed of (gave away) all the white-flour pasta, because I will only be eating whole-wheat pasta from now on, and my partner doesn't eat it when it's not the both of us eating. We're also going to eat only compliant dinners, and partner will eat any non-compliant foods when I'm at work.

I just steamed a big bag of little potatoes in the Instant Pot, and that should hold me for a few days. There's still a quart of the last batch of veggie soup, and partner's been making a new batch every few days. We're also going to sit down with my weekly dinner planner and plan it together so we can be a team on this. My partner is genuinely the most supportive person in the world, and I should have asked for help earlier.

I'll post my meal plan later today after we've made it. It'll probably be mostly vegetable soup and a curry here and there.

Meal plan week of 2/4/19

Postby Idgie » Sun Feb 03, 2019 4:29 pm

We plan dinners together. For breakfasts, I'll do hot cereal, leftovers, or veggie soup. For lunches, leftovers or pouches of pre-cooked brown rice and whatever veggies I have handy.

That is so sweet that you have someone willing to support you 100%. Excellent plan for the week. We have ours written out, too!

Postby Idgie » Wed Feb 06, 2019 9:35 am

I kept forgetting to photograph my food, but what matters is what goes in my mouth, right?

Brief foray into free chocolate territory (gift from one of my students) but otherwise a pretty good day.

B: Roasted potatoes, roasted broccoli, pineapple salsa
L: brown rice (not pictured)
S: off-plan chocolate (not pictured)
D: curry (not pictured), roasted potatoes, roasted broccoli (dipped in ketchup, balsamic reduction, and hot sauce)

Day 1

Postby Idgie » Fri Feb 08, 2019 10:27 am

So I need a little push of motivation to get away from this habit I'm having of "treating" myself to off-plan food almost every day. Every day cannot be a feast day and still get my health back. So I'm gonna let myself buy any book I want after every 7 days of 100% on-plan eating (no animal products, no added oil).

Today's food:
B: potatoes/onions/mushrooms/garlic/paprika; cup of tea
L: leftover potatoes from breakfast and some cucumber salad (cukes/vinegar/onions/a little salt)
D: veggie soup
S: brown rice or fruit or veggies

Left my phone at work, so no pics of breakfast.

Great idea for a motivator! I'll have to remember that for the future.

Day 1

Postby Idgie » Sat Feb 09, 2019 1:04 pm

Plan for today:
B: Veg soup
L: Veg soup
D: Veg soup and maybe some w/w pasta
S: fruit, radish cakes, sweet potatoes

Actual:
B: veg soup, black tea (no sugar/milk)
S: half a pomelo (I supremed it; I don't bother with other citrus, but pomelo skin isn't nice to eat)
L: two bowls of veg soup and a cucumber salad (cukes, balsamic vinegar, onions, and a little salt)
S: radish cakes
S: one bite of my daughter's vegan bagel dog at the cafe and an almond-milk latte (I think the weenie was a field roast, which is too fatty to eat more than a tiny bite of, but I wanted to taste it)
D: veggie sushi and miso soup and green tea at the restaurant with my daughter
S: rice with an assortment of kimchis and salsa

Plan for today:
B: avocado toast
L: veg soup
D: sweet potatoes and veggies
S: fruits and veggies, leftover rice and kimchi

Actual:
B: whole-wheat oil-free English muffins with avocado and hot sauce and salt-free seasoning; cup of tea (no sugar/milk)

Day 3

Postby Idgie » Mon Feb 11, 2019 10:44 am

Feel like I'm back on track. Tomorrow will be a challenge because I'm out of town all day, but I can do this.

Partner accidentally put soup ingredients directly into the Instant Pot without the liner, so it remains to be seen if we'll need to get a new one. We're following the directions online for drying it out. Interestingly, the internet says that if there's oil in the spill, you should just give up and buy a new one, but it was just a can of tomatoes, so we're hopeful.

Partner isn't on plan with me, but is helping me get our pantries more compliant. We gave away the white pasta and bought whole-wheat; we still have some white rice, but there's not much of that left. Partner has stopped adding oil to food we're sharing, and has stopped offering me off-plan foods (it wasn't that they were being a saboteur, just that they would forget and offer me something sweetly). And we're planning dinners weekly together so that we can have stuff we both like. Tonight is whole-wheat pasta.

Plan for today:
B: rice and veggies
L: Rice and veggies
D: Pasta
S: veggies, radish/taro cakes, rice

Actual (gonna start back to labeling McD vs. MWL so I can see how well I'm doing at moving toward MWL):
McD B: rice and veggies (steamed some leftover sticky rice with spinach. put it in a bowl and topped it with shredded zucchini, seaweed, and a little red pepper paste)
McD S: cup of tea with almond milk and a little sugar
McD S: radish/taro cakes
McD S: pecans and dates (spent the afternoon in the ER with my uncle; he's fine)
McD D: whole-wheat pasta with marinara and olives

Basil seed drink with honey.

Was it good? I've never heard of such a thing...seems like something you'd find at an Asian market. Looks like you're making good food choices, though. :unibrow: Keep it up!

Day 4

Postby Idgie » Mon Feb 11, 2019 8:26 pm

Buns, it's delicious! Tastes like jackfruit, and texture like chia drink. So good, but too much sugar to have very often (I don't eliminate sugar, but I take it pretty easy on it).

Tomorrow, I have to leave for a work thing at 4am to make it to LA in time for the first meeting. I could have spent the night up there instead, but I like sleeping in my own bed, and I don't like being away from the elderly relatives for longer than necessary.

Planned food for tomorrow:
B: Steamed leftover sticky rice and spinach with pineapple salsa
[Work will be providing breakfast and lunch. I am committing here to only eating the stuff that is McD compliant. I'm taking a pouch of cooked brown rice, some shelf-stable applesauce, and a can of pop-top beans with me just to avoid feeling desperate.]
D: Veg soup

Actual:
McD B: as planned, plus a cup of tea with sweetened almond milk
McD S: a few dates and pecans on the road
McD S: fruit and juice and tea at the work thing
McD L: the work buffet had LOTS of McD food: rice, black beans, greens, salsa, guac, corn tortillas
McD S: pecans, dates, corn, and a plum soda (low-sugar)
McD D: toast and dips/condiments (hummus, sriracha sweet potatoes, kimchi, pickled daikon, avocado

Kept forgetting to take pics, but I got a few.
