So sorry about your kidney stone issue. You'd think now that we are so careful about everything we eat - that it wouldn't be a problem. Hey wait - I bet it was that piece of salami, heheheehe

Hope this made you laugh - Michelle

hi fulenn,

I went back and looked, but I guess I missed you writing about having a kidney stone issue. Can't find it. I'm really sorry to hear that, and hope it resolves (dissolves) soon. Are you all planning what to make for next week this weekend? I'll stay tuned.

Hi moonwatcher,

You didn't miss anything. I post on the Facebook group and mentioned it this morning.

I ended up in the hospital with pain in my side and, after giving me something for the pain, they gave me a CAT scan and found out it was a kidney stone. I posted to the Facebook group as I have an app. for the group on my iPhone. :)

I am home now and will hopefully pass it on my own and without having to have any more invasive procedures. (cross your fingers)

OH dear, fulenn, I'm truly sorry you are going through this. I will hold my best thoughts and prayers that it passes soon and easily and at home. Take gentle care, and let us know how you are doing when you can.

No problem, Michelle. :)

I was looking at the papers from the doctor and when I had my other kidney stone 10 years ago, he noted that there was a second one he saw on the scan. I vaguely remember him telling me that it was not where they could get to it, I had the one broken up with lithotripsy, but that it would make itself known some day. Looks like today was the day.

I posted about this on the Facebook page. It is definitely a great reason to follow Dr. McDougall's diet.

I didn't eat much today, did not exercise, but I drank a lot of water. :)

Off to bed now,

Fulenn

Am feeling much better today! Thank you for the support. :) Though I do not know the exact cause of the stone, I suspect it was from eating heavy meat and dairy back in the day. When I had the first kidney stone, I remember I used to make a lot of homemade yogurt and to roast chicken in my rotisserie, to grill meat on the grill, and to make roasts. This is another good reason not to go there again.

We are in the kitchen making as many meals from our menu as possible. We WERE going to do part of them yesterday, too, but I got sidetracked. Here is our menu:
-orzo pasta salad
-baked french fries
-fruit salad
-rice pudding (a double batch this time as it was popular with everyone)
-beans and rice
-coconut curried potatoes and rice
-rice noodles with veggies
-spaghetti
-bruschetta
-potato enchiladas

We have put fresh lemons, cucumbers, tomatoes, kale, onions, garlic, asparagus, mushrooms, tomatillos, and jalapenos into the different meals along with two types of potatoes, two types of rice, noodles, and purple sweet potatoes on the side for snacking. I think this will be another good week. It was really nice to be able to tell the family that these certain meals are in the refrigerator, labeled and dated, and ready to eat as you please. I am very happy right now.

I rested again today as the medication from the doctor makes me very sleepy. But I also drank a lot of water with fresh lemon in it and ate good food choices.

My arm has not done the buzzing thing for 2 1/2 days now--I hope that continues.

I am so glad to hear you are feeling so much better, fulenn! That's good news. And this week's menu sounds wonderful. Can I fly over for dinner? :)

Seriously you are doing a great job at helping yourself stay on this WOE by planning and perparing ahead. I think it is essential. I did a lot of that and had to, because I wanted to be sure I had plenty of things I could eat that I wanted to eat so I wouldn't go "off." Sometime in the third year or so, I began to relax into it more. Now it's just natural, and I'm less worried about what might happen, because I know I'll stay on track. But before that can even happen, the key to success is PLANNING. Keep it up, you're doing great.

By the way, I am a big fan of rice pudding. :)

The great thing about the fruit salad is that my husband makes it--he cuts the mango, berries, watermelon, cantaloupe, it's just really good. He also cubes and parboils potatoes for me when I make potato salad and potato adobo.

So hop a flight, come on down, we'll eat here and then go hang out on 6th street. :)

Well, I think I better stay here, since my son and his girlfriend are coming to visit. :) They eat this way, too, so we will have some good food here. It's his birthday this coming Friday. He'll be 27. But I'll take a rain check. :)

What's the scene on 6th Street? :-)

Nice you have such an excellent food prep assistant, too, fulenn. :)
