here is my opinion: I agree with lfwf on the calorie density thing. I find that the more veggies I eat, the more weight loss I see. The more starches I eat the more I either gain or maintain. It's all about the veggies and the veggies do keep me satisfied as long as I eat enough. So I have 3/4 of my place full of veggies and the other 1/4?? full of a sweet potato. It took a while to adjust too it. I also dont' believe in calorie couting but that's just from my own experience. I did it for 1 year and never lost any weight and I was faithful and kept great track. Jeff's calorie density has been the only way that I have lost weight. I didn't start losing major weight on the Mcdougall program until I started the calorie density. I wish the best for you deb and do understand your frustration.

So glad to hear you are working with yourself and trying to figure out what to adjust to get the results you desire.

I totally empathize with the frustration and with wanting guarantees and 'quick' (or any!) results. I struggle with issues of control and wanting to just 'take charge' and find a sure-fire way to get the results I desire, even when it means setting myself up for failure in the long-term. For me, it's hard to keep the big picture in mind and to strive for time and the best adherence possible...and then be patient and trust my body to reach its healthy weight:eek:

Good luck Debbie, I really look forward to watching how things continue for you as you experiment and make some adjustments.

Debbie,
I just wanted to stop by and say that I'm just thrilled at how well you are doing! I know that you have had your share of struggles, but the whole tone of your posts has changed and you seem alot more upbeat and happy. And it's GREAT that your hubby is doing fantastic.

You are awesome. :D

My oatmeal blows up periodically also. Usually when I am in the biggest hurry.

You are doing a great job Deb! Must have been hard to laugh at that woman "spaghetti ohs aren't that bad", maybe, but they aren't good either :)

Debbie,

You've been doing really well, and approaching the first day of school can be stressful.

I cried on my son's first day of kindergarten, and tomorrow is his first day of 2nd grade, and I feel like pro now, but I still know that I will miss him. Just know that she'll be returning home every day, and the summer will be extra special because you'll get to spend it with her. You and she will be fine.

I'm glad that she's looking forward to it. That should make you feel a lot better. Oh, and that cafeteria menu sounds just like the one at my son's school. Hideous!

Let's call her your oldest!! Geesch.

2ndly, it is normal to feel anxious on that first day. I always had to work so I was used to taking you to daycare, so it wasn't so bad for me. I do remember your first day of kindergarton though, I hated that I had to rush off. I am going to have to dig out my pictures of you, you were so tiny standing outside the door.

This is how the world turns, kids are supposed to grow up, leave home, live their lives. Can't stop that, just live in the moment & enjoy every moment while it is here.

You are doing so well, I am so proud of you. Hang in there. Enjoy the middle girl's birthday, give her a big hug from me & enjoy tomorrow. It is a special day for her, put your nerves aside. Before you know it, she will be out of kindergarton & in high school. Now that's a scary thought, isn't it?

...getting the bus.....

Postby Marcia » Wed Aug 11, 2010 8:27 am

Hello Debbie,

I often read the journals here - congratulations on your continuing success.

Umm...regarding your daughter getting the bus - wake the napping children, leave them be grumpy, and take your daughter each way to her kindergarten/school. She is too young to be taking a bus on her own. My girls are 5 and 7 in a month and there is no way either of them would be on a bus alone, even if I were meeting them at the bus stop at either end. Please reconsider.

I hope you don't mind my posting in your journal, I rarely post at all.
Kind regards,
Marcia

Deb your doing great!!

as to Marcia's comment---I rode the bus when I was 5 and I know several children that still do this day. I think debbie has probably already considered all the options...like a mom would ;-)

...the bus.

Postby Marcia » Wed Aug 11, 2010 5:02 pm

Oh, Debbie,

The bus situation seems very well considered, safe and your decision sound and wise - as sksamboots suspected. Apologies. I wasn't being judgey, just concerned about safety.

It actually sounds like fun for your daughter.

Mmmmm......, your comment about control - now that is a kernel I can take away to consider for my own parenting!!....
Kind regards,
Marcia
