Essentially I lost no weight this week, but I did manage to lose the 1.5#s I gained! Dr. Lisle is right: a little bit CAN hurt. I've been dancing with 185 for a couple of weeks, interesting. I am getting bored with the foods I prepare. So I will dive into the quick & easy cookbook and look for some inspiration.

What are your favorite recipes?

My body is crying out for more exercise, so I plan to get into the pool a couple of days a week, not to burn calories because it won't be much but because my aging body needs it.

Happy Holidays everybody. Marsha

I make the Spicy White Bean Pitas from the Quick and Easy Cookbook every week or two. I don't really care for cannellini beans (too mushy) so I use dark red kidney beans instead. Love that meal!

I'm not very good at following recipes myself, though I have bought all the cookbooks. The polenta with the mushroom gravy is awesome, though I made my own polenta, it's so easy and so much cheaper. When I make polenta I obviously use no butter, and use 1/2 water and 1/2 veggie broth, and it's so good.

I'm feeling the need to exercise, but this cold has me still feeling off. I can tell after 1 week that I start to feel mushy.

I will have to hunt down that recipe. I have a hard time finding cannelini beans, do regular white navy beans work, that's what I usually substitute.

Annette, any bean works. I've never had navy beans, but I have used chickpeas, cannellini, pink, black, and dark red kidney and all were fine.

I didn't see that! how cool, where in Roeland Park? I lived at 5305 Linden St. for maybe 20 years before taking early retirement from Hallmark and moving back west. Loved my little house.

What to say? I am up half a lb from yesterday's MWl weigh-in. No idea what I ate. Too lazy to keep a food log. My body is having a hard time sticking to the 185 #. So I'll just double down on eating potatoes, greens, steam carrots, my morning oatmeal. I have spinach and broccoli to steam. Will look at the spicy white bean pitas in the quick & easy cookbook.

2 days of rain and I wanted to walk outside, not happening, so am leaving now to go to water aerobics. Hope the exercise jump starts my energy! I will use my 'white light' for a few minutes today. And, best of all, I started a new painting which is hard but looking really good! I continually surprise myself.

Interested in Dr. Greger's new book.

Ho Ho Ho. Scales today showed me at 185.0 Well well. I have been dancing around 185 for a few weeks, haven't seen the 0 before though. I am determined to hang out at 185, and go for 184.x, why not?

I read with 3rd graders once a week. The girl I read with on Thursday was very sick, should have been home but I know this isn't always possible. Wish she had worn a mask though. Anyway, my careful precautions didn't work as I now have a sore throat. Going to eat a lot of citrus and orange/yellow/green veggies in hopes it is short-lived.

Breakfast is going to be a steamed acorn squash with rice and peas. Later today I'll do a Jeff N 'fast food' stir fry (beans, tomatoes, frozen veggies + chopped bok choy for calcium) and served with either rice or potatoes. Steamed spinach and broccoli too. I just finished the very tasty split pea soup with celery, carrots and potatoes. Must make more.

I appreciate the posts about 'moderation' and no such thing as 'a little bit won't hurt you'. Really helpful and true.

Hang in there, Marsha

Someone else who eats steamed acorn squash for breakfast - brilliant! :-D

Hope you don't get too sick. Maybe you can still fight it off, or it won't be too bad.

I loved my steamed squash. Have another one stuffed with orzo pasta, carrots, spinach and peas for dinner tonight. Sadly, I did get the head cold virus, but not too bad. I KNOW that eating plants has lessened the severity of it.

thanks, Marsha

Here we are, and off we go. BUT, yay me, I made a healthy fast food stir fry ala Jeff N. My favorite quick and easy meal, over basmati rice. Today is cards with the girlfriends where there will be treats, but I am already set up for success. And I really want Thursday's MWL weigh-in to show a loss, no matter how small.

Wishing you all blessings and peace.

I hope you start feeling better soon! :) I love that you volunteer to read in the school with children. I would like to do that when I retire.

I like helping kids read, it's the most important skill. But they are GERM magnets! Nothing to do now but wait out this bad cold, keep eating citrus and leafy greens.
