I saw that earlier this week. Pretty strange, isn't it?

One of our neighbors down the street has kidney cancer and is getting awfully skinny because of it. He appears to be suffering quite a bit.

The weird thing is they start out saying bread, and end up even saying rice too...HUH??? Lots of unanswered questions left on this one.

Well, I can understand rice (and pasta) too if it was a problem of insulin like they suspected.

I'm sorry to hear about your neighbor. I hope his problems don't get worse.

Refined cereals

Postby Malva » Wed Oct 25, 2006 4:04 pm

"Our study suggests that a diet poor in refined cereals and rich in vegetables may have a favorable role on the risk of renal cell carcinoma."

The issue was with REFINED foods.
McDougall always recommendes whole, unrefined foods.
Refined white bread is very popular in Europe. I had a devil of a time trying to find whole grain products while visiting there several years ago.

Also, the subjects ate THREE POUNDS of white bread a week???
(If my calculations are correct.)
That's like eating three loaves a week.
White bread is like eating cake, and the ghost of Marie Antoinette is having her revenge on these folks! ("Let them eat cake")

[Three loaves a week for one person seems highly super-excessive to me, as my husband and daughter (who eat toast and sandwiches) can't manage to eat a loaf of whole grain bread a week between the two of them. ]
I do a more restricted Program to maintain my weight & health. I have been McDougalling for about 30 years, with a long transition, until I finally accepted this lifestyle, stayed on Program and reached my goal back in 2006.
