Atrial Fibrillation

Postby hallelujahgirl » Wed Feb 02, 2022 2:54 pm

I am a 75yr old female. I have just been diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation.
Dr gave me medication to lower my heart rate and a blood thinner for risk of clots/stroke.
Echocardiogram showed my valves were working normally.
What effect will a WFPB diet have on this condition?

Thank you for your comments

Something my dad and uncle have. First through unrelated to lifestyle, but evidence keeps appearing that caused and treatable by lifestyle changes, like McDougall Diet. Besides Dr McDougall, there are specialists in cardiology that do research and treat afib with diet and lifestyle.

“The underlying cause of most cases of atrial fibrillation is closure of the small arteries to the heart muscle and nervous tissues, due to the Western diet and lifestyle.”7

Thank you so much for your reply and giving me all the links to these great articles on Atrial Fibrillation.
They confirmed what I do suspect as the cause. Or at least I hope is the cause. My Dr. thinks since I don't have any history of heart issues, and the Echocardiogram was normal, that perhaps it was brought about by Covid. I am on meds to lower heart rate and a blood thinner. All this to be safe while we wait and monitor any further episodes for 6 months. She thinks that when lingering effects of Covid are gone, hopefully the Affib will be gone as well.

In the meantime, I will correct my diet and add exercise.

Hi Carol,

I read your post. I may have something like this going on I think. Can you describe what it feels like? Does your heart beat fast and then slows down for no reason? Does it flutter, skip beats, etc.?

I am going to bring this to my doc's attention the next time I go in to see him.

Thanks

Hi, I just saw your reply post. Sorry for the delay. Your description of your symptoms sounds like the way Afib acts.
I was diagnosed while having an EKG. I didn't even know I was fibrillating. Some folks have Afib, but arnt aware. No symptoms.
I think I recall maybe 3 times over past years this sensation. It felt like my heart "stumbled". Boom Boom. Then nothing else.
I was diagnosed 1/17/22. I am now on Blood Thinners and a medication to keep my heart rate down should my heart fibrillate hard. This all happened when I had Covid. It could have been caused by Covid or I already had it and Covid triggered it. You definately should have it checked because I have learned that it has high risk of stroke. More than other heart problems. Fibrillation causes heart to leave behind some blood, because its not pumping correctly. This blood could pool and cause a clot. The clot could break off and go to the brain causing a stroke. I am a high risk because I am female and over 75. The cardiologist put a heart monitor on me to see if I am fibrillating any more. Good luck, have it checked.
