Animal Foods and Health: A Review of the Evidence

The true magnitude of effect of diet on health is often masked by several characteristics common to many studies, including limited changes in intake, a limited duration of exposure to intake, and comparisons of low-quality foods. Here I review a broad range of high-quality evidence to argue that the true magnitude of benefit of long-term adherence to a high-quality plant-based diet and, in turn, the adverse effects of popular animal-based diets on major causes of death and disability is likely far greater than often recognized.
