Willijan wrote:I'm curious, landog, what processed foods are you leaving out that you might have eaten before? Your meals sound routine, just like mine. You say you are loving your food, and I'm loving mine. I might think I am tired of rice with broccoli and garlic again, but when I start eating it tastes great.

I think mostly breads (which may include toast w fruit spreads), salad sandwiches on pita breads, pasta.
No maple syrup on my oatmeal. No occasional candy.
I'm avoiding beer and wine.

That's all that comes to mind. Thanks for visiting!

Feb. 11

I did not have a normal day of eating, in that I did not have '3 meals.'
I've been working on a paper for school that was due today. I pretty much ate when I would take a break from the work.
Today I had:

Mashed potatoes.
Home Fries
Rice and beans
A Honeybell and a Sumo
A banana
An apple
broccoli and cauliflower
Mashed potatoes.

Hi Katie,

McDougalling just makes too much sense. In theory, it's easy. In practice, in a lot of ways, it is easy.
When I'm closest to 100%, it's easiest.

I'm not tempted in the least by animal foods or dairy.

How am I not 100%? I drink coffee. Lately, I've been limiting to 2 cups. I drink beer or wine on occasion. On those occasions, I'm apt to (over)consume processed carbs. Sometimes, at work, I'll eat candy - some of my coworkers have candy dishes out all the time. These are areas that I can improve upon.

I should exercise more regularly.

When do I do the best?
- When I'm active on this board. I'm trying to stay engaged here.
- When I go to a plant-based lecture or event. I live in Cleveland, and I've seen Dr. Esselstyn, Ann, Rip and/or Jane dozens of times. The Esselstyns probably think I'm a stalker. I've seen Dr. Ornish a couple of times, and Dr. Barnard twice. I've always wanted to go to a McDougall event - this could be the year!
- Reading or re-reading books gets me to be more mindful.
Those are things that get me to pass up the candy dish.

You'd think after 9 years, I'd be doing better. I'm doing pretty well, this month. I should have a goal of an unprocessed year! :)

On the plus side, before I started with this lifestyle I was on statins and BP meds. I've been free of prescription medication for 9 years!

You are so lucky to be able to see these people talk in real life. I live in New Zealand......

Like you I find compliance much easier when I engage here, as well as watch you tube videos to remind me McDougalling is good! I got a whole wonderful new life after losing weight and gaining health on this way of eating....so why the backsliding? Goodness only knows!
