Hey Trinity! Thanks for the drop-by.
This place used to be hoppin, I'll tell you. When Letha and Debbie used to post regularly. Naomi. Kelly. PinkRose, Norm. It's much quieter these days.
I saw in your journal that you've been at this for 10 years. I'm about 13 years into it, but should only count 12 since this past year I have not done well at all with many of the guidelines. Cheese and oil especially have crept back in, and I even had a stretch where chicken was just...I was eating it probably once or twice a week. SMH And fried, at that. Holy moley. What was I thinking.
But I stopped that, and lately I have NOT had cheese but that was a thing for a while, too. Then I realized that I was adding to my fat burden, if that makes sense. Similar to how you can eat the core of an apple, even though the seeds have toxins...but if you ate a lot of those seeds, it would all add up until eventually your system would be overloaded. Or someone who develops an allergy. The first time it's hives, second time you might feel a tingle in your mouth along with the hives. But it's building up in your body so the third time hits you really hard and you go into anaphylaxis. Your body just couldn't handle one more little smidgen of that allergen. Eating foods with a lot of fat just adds to the fat burden in my tissues, right? It wasn't like I was eating that stuff every day, not at all. But every time I did, I was adding to the burden.
Anyway, I got away from that stupidity and eliminated between meal snacking and continued with my regular and stable practice of eating good solid McDougall worthy meals (Even when I was stopping for KFC it was a snack, and I was eating good solid fat free, low protein starch-based meals) and now I am eating three meals a day, half starch and half non-starchy vegs until satiated. Finding myself feeling satiated with less food nowadays, too.
Exercise. I love LOVE the gym. The endorphin rush from peaking out your heart rate is AMAZING. The quad extensions and leg presses that the PT told me to do are very helpful...BUT. If I overdo in other areas, such as too much walking, this tweaks my knee, which then I rest my knee for a few days, which then triggers my Lazy Couch Potato and inertia and such...
so recently when my grandson visited two afternoons in a row and we went on long walks (heh...to the end of the street and back, tbh) well, my knee didn't like that and I was pretty much resting it for at least a week. And I started doing qi gong because I can put that on YouTube at home and I love LOVE LOVE qi gong. It's energy is similar to yoga energy. Not as WOOO HOOOOOO! rush as a high heart rate from cardio at the gym (which I will get back to) but it's a clear-headed, action packed energy. So...both. The gym two or three times a week, and qi gong the other days, so I am still exercising every day.
That and the sensible three square starch centered meals per day...well what's not to love. The energy from both this excellent food, and the excellent exercise...yah babay!
